Mollem | Mollem National Park | Goa

Mollem national park widely spreaded across the area of 240 sq kilometers is about (93 sq mi). The park is located in the western ghats of south India in sanguem taluk , Goa along the border of karnatka. It is situated near the town of Mollem i.e 57 km away from panaji the national capital of Goa.

The national highway divided it into two parts and also mormugao railway line passes through this area.

Now coming to the history of this park, firstly it was known as the mollem game sanctuary and then later on it was renamed as Bhagwan Mahaveer sanctuary in 1969 and also declared as a wildlife sanctuary. The Mollem national park is came to known in 1978.

The park in itself define that it was blessesd with variety of floras and faunas for eg: tropical evergreen forest, moist deciduous forests and semi evergreen forests. There are several sources of water in the sanctuary like rain water, rivers etc. So the availability of water in the sanctuaries is not limited.

There are different varieties of plants species present in mollem national park, 722 species of flowering plants of wild category which belongs to 492 genera and 122 families. 128 species of endemic plants are also found as well as 37 species of pteridophytes are also found in the national parks.

Addition to different species of plants there is different species of mammals, birds, Butterflies and reptiles etc are also found.
